Ida Tyler
(1916-1985)

Ida (La Grande Ida) Tyler was born in Arnaudville, LA. Her father was Rene Pierre Tyler and her mother was Marie Joachime (Josephine) Remy. Ida was the youngest child in a family of eleven children. The family farmed the land and raised crops such as cotton, corn and yams. She was a great cook who once cooked for Tony Cachere, a Cajun food and spices entrepreneur. She has a note of appreciation from a former First Lady of Louisiana , Elaine Edwards, for her wonderful praline candy. Ida was able to enjoy three grandchildren. She was well known and respected in her community. A large number of nieces and nephews influenced many friends to address her as "Aunt Ida". On her gravestone are engraved the words "Gentle Woman".
